Blog Number 5

So this blog is going to be a bitch blog. All my blogs (save the first one) have been about the basement and our renos, and now I'm moving on.

We don't have a landline, just our cell phones. We don't get enough calls nor do we have the need to have a landline, even though I do want one because now that we're in the basement we don't get the best service (well Todd gets next to no service) and we all know how much I hate my phone because of the fact that I dropped it in the toilet.

So in saying that, since it IS a cell phone, not many people have my number, friends and family, work (unfortunately), my insurnace company and maybe a couple other bill people (maybe). I'm not an idiot and think that I'll never get a wrong number. It happens to people all the time, me included. BUT I have voicemail, my name is in my voicemail and I still have people (one person inparticular right now) calling me and leaving messages that make NO sense.

Now, if this had happened once, then ok fine I just chalk it up as a mistake and move on with my life, I erase the message and move on, it's completely forgotten and all is right in the world again. UNTIL this moring, on the one day we get to sleep my cell rings at 8:45 am (which I know isn't early for a lot of people) and its the same OLD MAN who is calling again. Of course again he leaves a message and now he sounds angry and crotchety and again I can't understand what he is saying except 'call me.' Yea right. I have NO idea who this crazy fool is and there is no way I'm going to waste my minutes and be charged long distance charges so that I can tell you that you have the wrong number and to stop calling me.

Like I said earlier, it had been one call before and I just erased the message and forgot about it, but this is the second one, which I will more than likely forget about as well, but if he calls again I guess I'm going to have to do something about it. Everyone who knows me knows that I don't answer my phone if I don't know the number (and if you didn't know that, then you do now), so me not answering the phone when this crazy old man calls is not uncommon.

The thing that bothers me the most is that I'm fairly certain (like 99% sure) that he has the wrong number and the thing that kills me is that MY NAME is in my voicemail, so if he had an ounce of common sense he would know that he has the wrong number. Do people not listen to voicemail messages anymore? Do they just dial a number and once it stops ringing and the voicemail message kicks in they hold the phone away from their ear and wait for the beep?

And if people do this now, then what's the point of even having a voicemail message? Why not just have it ring and then after a certain amount of rings, just have a been sound and the crazy fool can leave a message. Then you, as the phone's owner can decide if it's a message you should reply to it or not.

Now, I've spent entirely too much time thinking about this stupidity and in saying that, I am done.

Till next time.

Blog Number 4 - The Finished Product.

So, the living room is finally done. I still have to make some slip covers for the couches, and I think I might get some pictures for the walls, but otherwise, everything is moved in and all set up. Todd did a good job at thinking about where everything should go. It's kind of funny, but the set up is similar to what it was in the living room, with more room obviously. But I guess if it works then why not continue to use the layout?

The best part about having the living room done? No more being stuck in the bedroom all the time. Not that I don't like being in the bedroom, but I like having separate living and sleeping areas. And I'm glad that we have the TV and Wii set up again. I know it's lame (because let's face it, I'm pretty lame) but I miss playing Wii and I have Wii Sims that I bought three weeks ago and I still haven't been able to play it.

Our next task is to clean all the junk out of the middle room and get that painted and set up to be our 'kitchen' area, and then to paint the bedroom.

Oh and I should add, that the black carpet that we got from Todd's parents looks really good in the room. I was a little worried that the black wouldn't look very good with the grey and green walls, but it actually does. I think that the slip covers that I plan on making are going to be black AND green instead of just green, especially if I can't find a green to match the wall.

Now when I get up before Todd, I don't have to worry about waking him up by turning the TV on. He deserves to be able to sleep in two out of the seven days of the week, and who am I to take that away? So right now, as I am in the (new!!) living room catching up on my PVR stuff (and there is a lot), Todd is still sleeping. If this were last Saturday, he would have been up by now because I woould have turned the TV on.

There is so much wall space (as you can see in the picture) that I think I need to add some pictures, but I don't want to cover my awesome stripe that took entirely too long to to tape and paint.

Anyway, the decisions to put pictures up will be made soon enough and I'm sure I'll post about it.

Blog Number 3

As you can see, I'm about as non creative with blog titles as one can get. I know that titles can make or break the book, paper, article or blog in this case, but I've never been good with titles, so I'm just going to continues on my numbering titles.

So we are FINALLY almost done the renos for the living room. All that is left is the baseboards, ceiling and moving in all the furniture. Todd says we'll have it all done by the weekend. I don't think that it won't, but we are both being kind of lazy when it comes to the final touches. But that being said, it looks AWESOME. I'm so impressed with our progress, because honestly, when we first go there and saw all the work we had ahead of us, I was a little wary that we'd ever get it looking livable. But we have.

The only issue that I'm having is the floor. I'm not buying flooring and installing it because 1) it's going to be too expensive 2) we don't have the time and 3) I'd rather just get a big area rug so that I can take it with me when we move. But the problem with that is, that rugs are too damn expensive. Anyway the above picture is before the renos (the wall with the biggest hole) and the following picture is the newest picture I've taken of the room. Once the ceiling and baseboards are done, I'm going to take a few pictures before we put the furniture in and then again once the room is completely finished, with all the furniture in it and with it looking like home.

Now if only this was the last thing we had to do, but nope, we still have two more rooms. The bedroom will be fine, it just needs a bit of TLC and a fresh coat of paint. But the middle room is going to be hell. There is so much shit (that isn't ours) that needs to be cleared out. Not looking forward to that. But at least the walls are in decent shape so that won't be too hard to fix.

Well all I can really say, is that I can't wait till it's all done and it actually feels like our own
apartment, and not just a basement. I think it's going to look really good once everything is done. Maybe I should become an interior decorator. Or, maybe not.

Blog Number 2

So finally have my computer back. Had to send it to Dell to get another motherboard. This is the second time I've sent it to them for a motherboard is less than a year. You would think that if there was something wrong with all the motherboards this put in this model, they would send you a letter or something. Car companies do it, why can't Dell?

So, I never realized how much I would miss my computer. Just for the little things, like if I want to look something up, it's not as easy without my computer. So all in all, I'm glad it's back, even if it took a day longer then they promised me it would.

What else is going on. I started working again this week. Man, I am out of sync with the whole working thing. It's now, what Thursday? And I'm just starting to not dread the last hour. I'm enjoying being back at work, and I like that I'm actually learning new stuff instead of doing the stuff I had been doing when I was there before. There is at least one new thing a day, which is good.

I have to say I'm glad I'm going to a new store and not just coming back to this one. It's not that this one has gone down hill, because it hasn't AT ALL. It's just that so many things have changed - maybe for the better, maybe not - that I don't think I would be able to function. Thankfully at a new store, it's a fresh start and I can do things the way I know how and since most of the people I'll be working with are new to the company, I won't have people telling me to do it their way.

Moving on to the basement renovations. Things are moving pretty smoothly now. Todd finished all the patching and sanding. We primed the walls and we have the first coat of the grey on 3 walls (the 4th wall is going to be green). I was a bit worried about the colour when we first started because it was a little too taupey for me, but once it dried it was looking more like the colour that I had picked.

Once we are done, I plan on posting a blog with the progress, but right now the pictures are all on facebook. But we are hopefully (keep your fingers crossed) we'll be all moved in by the end of the weekend. The other two rooms probably won't be painted until around Easter when I have 4 days off so I can do it in a day or two.

I can't wait till it's all finished!! It's going to look so nice.

Till next time.

The beginning

Ok, so I'm starting a blog.

Can't promise that it'll be interesting or that it will be full of wisdom, but I can promise that it will be honest. I've been thinking about starting a blog for a while, and there's no time like the present right?

So I guess I say a little about myself and what's going on in my life right now. I'm 25 (26 in June), Todd and I have been dating for a year and a half and he's awesome. We just moved back into my parents place to save some money so we can get a house in a year or two.

What else can I say. My first day of work after 2 months off is tomorrow. I don't go to my actual store until April, but I get to do three weeks of training before that. I'm excited and happy but I'm also not looking forward to it at the same time.

Since we just moved into my parents place, we're fixing up the basement to make it livable, and I had planned on using the time before I go to the new store to paint, decorate and move all the stuff in and make it livable. Now it will probably take a little longer than anticipated.

There is so much work to do down there, so I'm sure most of my blogs for the next month will be about the basement and the progress that we've made. Our goal is to have the living room done and read to move furniture in by the end of the week. I think we can do it. I'm hoping to get at least the ceiling and the primer done tonight and then paint the base colour tomorrow.

I'll post pictures as time goes on, so you can see how far we actually have come, and how much work we've done.

Well that is all for now I suppose, if you do read this, I promise that I'll try and make it as interesting as I can.

Till next time.
